Governors

Welcome to the section of our web site dedicated to the School’s Governing Body. Central to our work is the belief that children achieve best when parents and school work together.

We have three main functions: to set the ethos of the school, to monitor that pupils are achieving to the best of their abilities and to scrutinise financial management. In addition, all the governors are active in supporting and challenging various aspects of school life, as you can see below, as well as monitoring and developing policies that support our ethos and values.

Governing Body Job Descriptions

David Hall

Chair of Governors
Term of office: 06/3/19 to 31/1/27

I have lived in Mulbarton for many years and brought my children up here, both have attended the school which I feel is at the heart of our close community. I was born and grew up in Norfolk and returned in 2014 after many years living abroad and in the Northeast. I am a Chartered Building Surveyor specialising in commercial property. This primarily involves designing and managing the construction of buildings and advising on the condition of existing property.  I have strong technical, legal and regulatory knowledge of the built environment. I thoroughly enjoy being on the board, seeing the dedication and professionalism of the staff resulting in a fun and engaging education for the children is continuously inspiring.

James Turner

Parent Governor
Term of office: 1/11/18 to 29/11/26

My wife and I moved to Mulbarton in 2015 – we have two daughters at the school and really enjoy the community feel within the village, with the school at its heart.  I am a marketing graduate, who, after my degree and 5 years working in media marketing in London, decided to move back to Norfolk as its such a lovely place to live and bring up a family.  I now work in the financial services sector as Head of Marketing and am passionate about marketing, communications and people leadership. I have strong commercial awareness and a good mix of analytical and creative skills, which help me to drive business growth.  I do my best to keep fit and active through the triathlon of cycling, running and trying to keep up with my daughters! As a governor I aim to assess and contribute to, the continued success of the school and to ensure all is being done to give pupils a fun, challenging and fulfilling learning environment.

Sam Bartram

Co-opted Governor
Term of Office: 01/10/25 to 30/09/29

My husband and I have lived in Mulbarton since 1994. We have two grown up daughters, both of whom went to school in the village. I have been involved, in one way or another, in supporting both the village schools and early years settings for many years. Most recently, prior to the creation of Mulbarton Primary School, I was Chair of Governors of the Junior School for 8 years. I stepped away due to work and family commitments around 6 years ago but having now taken early retirement I have more time to dedicate to becoming a governor again. I feel passionate about ensuring that as a village school we provide a sound and nurturing environment in which our children can grow and thrive. Before retiring I worked for Aviva for 32 years in various roles as both a commercial lawyer and procurement manager and have many skills that I can bring to my role as governor.

Claire Gothard

Co-opted Governor
Term of Office: 12/7/23 to 11/7/27

I’ve been a Mulbarton resident for seven years, so this school sits right at the heart of my community. By day I work in teacher training, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about what great education looks like, and being a governor here lets me bring that into something genuinely local and personal. I joined because I care about this school and the children and families it serves, and it’s been a real privilege to be part of it. I’m looking forward to continuing to support the brilliant work everyone here does.
