Young Carers
At Mulbarton Primary School, we are proud to support the many young people in our community identified as Young Carers. Our Young Carers Group has been established since 2023 and provides a safe, welcoming space where students can meet others with similar experiences, share support, and access guidance from trained staff.
Our Young Carers often play an important role in looking after a sibling, parent, or other relative who may have a physical disability, mental-health difficulty, chronic illness, or additional needs. Even if a Young Carer does not have a direct caring role we understand and acknowledge they may encounter additional challenges. Their contribution is incredibly valuable, and we are committed to recognising and celebrating the resilience, empathy, and responsibility they show every day.
Carer Friendly Tick in Education Award
We are delighted that our school has achieved the Carer Friendly Tick in Education Award, recognising our ongoing work to ensure young carers feel understood, supported, and included.
This award demonstrates our commitment to:
- Raising awareness of young carers across the school
- Providing practical support and trusted adult contacts
- Ensuring young carers can access learning without disadvantage
- Listening to students and responding to their individual needs
Achieving this award highlights our determination to make our school an inclusive, supportive environment for all.
Through meetings, staff training and regular check-ins, we aim to help every young carer feel heard, valued, and empowered.
